Since our childhood, we understand that the study of computer science involves the informational process as well as its transformation. However, when we enter into the world of professional practice we understand and experience computer science differently. In this present era, it is seen that professionals seek a job based on their ability to display competence in the application of computational methods. With time, it is found that our peers have become proficient because they possessed the capability to solve complex tasks with the application of computers easily. However, there are several misconceptions related to computer science that exists within us and we are trying it best to navigate them effectively in the real-world situation. The five common misconceptions related to computer science are:

Computer science is related to programming and coding

This is one of the most common misconceptions, however, it is not considered to be true. The top scientists and the computer engineers were not coders and they did not possess in-depth knowledge of coding. However, the different fields of computer science can be executed effectively without gaining effective coding skills. This is because some of the branches of computer science require only problem-solving skills rather than coding skills. So, it is not necessary to be a programmer for maintenance and repairing.

Computer science must be learned only if you want to excel in technical fields

The technical industry is found to be intimidating to an individual who does not possess essential knowledge in the field of computer science. It is difficult for the student to handle the technical industry if that particular person does not have sufficient knowledge of computer science. However, it is not necessary to be a coder to become computer science expertise. In this era, there are ample opportunities for students to excel in the field of computer science by going through video tutorials.

Computer science is linked to science and maths only, you need to be an expert in both to excel in computer science

History tells us many things and electrical engineers have built and designed electronic computers without possessing sufficient knowledge of computer science. The goal of computer science students is to harness the movements of electrons in the circuit to carry out numerical calculations as well as logical operations. The programs control the circuits by closing and opening the gates. However, it is the responsibility of mathematics and scientists to carry out experimental and formal methods of computing. To find out the entire work, the scientists and the engineers must try the hypothesis. Thus, it is the responsibility of the scientists and engineers to contribute to the vibrant computing profession that is necessary to be successful in this particular area.

Computer science is complicated for the youths especially girls

Computer science can be considered to be a complex subject and most of the youths find it difficult to handle the different areas of the subject. It is not considered to be true in all cases that the youths face difficulty in managing computer science. The most important aspect that matters to the student is how the students are taught or are acquainted with the subject. There are child-friendly as well as simple ways through which it becomes easier for the youths to understand the different principles of computer science. This is through the use of block-based coding techniques as well as the use of sophisticated electronic projects. On the other hand, it has been youth that the youths mostly the girls are not efficient in the technical field and there is a misconception that the subject is made only for the boys. It is difficult to deny the fact that the subject is male-dominated and thus there should be the provision of equal opportunity to the students of both genders.

Computer science is difficult to be integrated into core subjects

It is difficult for students to assume computer science as an independent subject like Maths, History, English, and Science. However, this should not be considered to be true. This is because carrying out a computer science project requires a proper level of integration with the other subjects. A student must have basic knowledge of Maths and Physics if he/she wants to gain in-depth knowledge of computer science as there exists co-relation between the subjects. However, this is not considered to be true in all cases and a student must possess basic knowledge of all the subjects even if he/she wants to pursue computer science. This can be considered to be a myth as an expert does not have core knowledge of all subjects.

Thus, it can be said that the above mentioned are some of the misconceptions related to computer science and thus it is necessary to take the appropriate steps to remove these misconceptions.
